  16. I picked up 'C++, The Complete Reference' by Herbert Schildt this week,
  17. basically looking for the same type of book as you are, but willing to put
  18. up with more in the way of explanation and example.  It is of considerably
  19. greater heft than K&R, but much less so than Prata's 'Primer'.

  21. It appears to meet my needs, but time will tell.  It *does* appear to be 
  22. a complete reference, unlike some of the "Learn..." sort of  beginner's 
  23. books.
